Welcome to HackPhoto.com
I’ve been interested in photography since I was 8-years-old and got my first camera – a Kodak disc camera. Since then I’ve gone through a Canon Ftb, A1, AL1, EOS 1v, Elan 7, and a EOS 10d; and I still have them all except the FTb and EOS 1v.
And, I’ve got computers and technology as an interest. Aside from my first computer – a 386sx-25 from Computer City – I have built every computer I’ve had. Not that I think I can do a better job than a prebuilt, I just like the process.
As it turns out, these two interests fit well together; especially after I bought a Canon EOS 10d. I enjoy working in Photoshop, Corel Draw, Paint Shop Pro, and these types of programs. I like the process of taking an image that is almost there out of the camera and making it into something special in the computer.
Which brings up web development, a natural spin-off of my interest in technology. At one point I was fairly adept as Visual Basic programming, which lead to ASP and finally to PHP. Throw in HTML and web development became an interest – mostly because it allows me to share my other interests. For this site, I decided that WordPress was the way to go after using it on two other of my sites. I know, another blog, just what the world needs. But I’ve found that a blog system fits well with the way I write. It allows me to write as I have time and always keeps new stuff at the top. My other option was a CMS package called Etomite, which I like a lot and have used for other sites. But WordPress is less structured than Etomite and seemed a better fit for this particular site.
This web site gives me the opportunity to put my interests together in one place. I have the chance to write about photography experiments I’ve done, and will do. I can put up photographs I’ve taken for others to see, and a little for my own ego. I can write about Photoshop tips and tricks that I’ve learned and want to pass along.
So, again, welcome to HackPhoto. As this is the first page I’m writing there isn’t much here yet. But it’ll grow. And if you have anthing you want to say, please use the comments form on each posting. Right now I’ve got it set so I have to moderate every comment before it shows up, but if I can find a good anti-spam plugin I may do away with that. Or if you just want to say hi, have an idea for an article, or anything else you want to share I have a contact form set up where you can email me.
