Brazos Bend State Park – 1/6/2006

A weekend without plans usually finds me behind a camera. This time we took a short trip down to Brazos Bend State Park.

The park is advertised as an hour drive from downtown Houston, which is probably pretty accurate. It is about an hour from Katy. If you’re coming from Houston, Highway 59 to the Crabb River Road exit and then FM 762 about 15 miles and you’re there.

With a 3.2 mile frontage on the Brazos River, the park covers about 5,000 acres and was open to the public in 1984.

This trip was in the middle of winter – easily forgotten with the 80 degree temperature – which does not lead to the most photogenic scenery. The lakes were low and the foilage was nearing brown.

Had I used my tripod, I could have stayed at ISO 100 and had an f/16 of f/22 aperature to keep everything I wanted in focus. Worst part, my tripod was in the car about 1,000 feet away. [...]
